Welly wanders national walking month

This May Bank Holiday is probably the first to get out and explore. So whether you live north, south, east or west, there are plenty of things to have a go at, or even just to enjoy a welly wander along a canal, river or coastline.

We have pulled together some links that we think you will find useful, and if you are coming to The Lake District, we've got a few ideas of what to do come rain or shine.

Go and explore in a forest - Forestry England has lots of ideas - Have a look at this link

Play games in the woods - especially right now when things are starting to come to life. We spotted a game of Bluebells True or False - You can download it by clicking this link

LOTS TO DO IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

We are so lucky to have the Lakes on our doorstep. If you love coming but not necessarily climbing mountains, there are loads of things to do – whatever the weather:

Take a trip on a bus through the Lakes - just £2/journey  Did you know that Stagecoach busses have kept their offer running this year – it’s just £2 per single fare – anywhere on their routes? That means you can get on at Penrith, travel along Ullswater, down into the central Lakes, go for a welly wander in Windermere and come back again for just £2 each way.  Have a look at the Stagecoach routes and offers here.

Go wild in the forests of Grizedale and Whinlatter  - Click here for Whinlatter  and if you are in the south of the county - Click here for Grizedale

Go even wilder with the wildlife - we love meeting Lemurs and Red Pandas at The Lake District Wildlife Park

And if it rains - try something indoors

Keswick Climbing Wall - quite safe and kids love it - Click here to climb a wall.

Do you love Squirrel Nutkin and Mrs Tiggywinkle? Then hop skip and jump to The World of Beatrix Potter

Go under the ocean and explore at The Lakes Aquarium in Windermere
